The minimum recommendation is 1 mg of nitenpyram per kg of body weight. Capstar has a wide safety margin when used as directed. Capstar can be administered to pregnant or lactating females and breeding males and females. Capstar will begin working within 30 minutes to remove all adult fleas on your pet.
Capstar has been administered safety to cats and dogs in conjunction with other commonly used veterinary products including anthelmintics, antibiotics, corticosteroids, vaccines and shampoos. If you are unsure please contact your veternarian.
When using Capstar you may notice you cat or dog scratching intensely after medication this is because the adult fleas are dying and usually the problem resolves itself as the fleas begin to die – this is a reaction to the fleas and not the drug. Capstar 11.4 mg and 57mg comes in a 6 tablet pack. One dose may be sufficient in most cases to kill all the adult fleas on your pet, however it is safe to administer up to 1 tablet every two days until all adult flea are dead.
Capstar does not treat the fleas in your pet’s environment so it may be necessary to treat your pet more than once with Capstar as the immature fleas in and around the home will continue to develop. Be sure to treat all infested pets in your house hold. Fleas can reproduce on untreated pets and allow infestations to persist.
Capstar should be followed with a one-month preventative to curb further flea infestation such as PROGRAM.
